A step by step guide of how I made my latest painting 'Before the storm'. It's quite quick (but with a lot of text!), and I'm not sure if it will be helpful to anyone at all. But I always appreciate other artists sharing their process, and hopefully someone will be able to pick something up from this! :)

The brush set I keep mentioning can be found here:[link]

Thanks for looking!

Nice tutorial, I am working the same way as you, just results arent the same xD You are way better. I wanted to ask, why is it so grainy the closeup? I mean, are you using a filter to add noise at the end? looks good though! And where did you find the first brush mentioned in tutorial? looks interesting and as the only one, it is not written from where it is.. :) thanks!

The grainyness is indeed a texture :D Good for spotting that. Maybe I didn't write it in the text.... The first brush I'm not sure where I got it from. The reason I haven't mentioned it in the text is plainly because it doesn't make much of a difference. Any brush you feel comfortable working with at that stage is good!

It depends on what the image is being used for. I often work in A4 as well! But sometimes, if it's just for practice and it won't get further than just being posted online, I will work very much smaller. If you don't plan to ever print something, there is no reason to work in big formats :D

Glad you find them helpful. Overlay layers should mainly be used to colour in a gray scale image. After you've plotted down the basic colours like that, I'd recommend using mostly Normal layers for the proper painting bit!
