This portrait is commissioned by . It's of her OC Xion!
After a month away from the pen and paper (and mainly the tablet...), I can really feel the rust. I loved working on this, but it was a struggle at times. At this moment I'm happy but relatively blind.
With both my confidence and my skill level back at level one it's time to make my way up again. On to the next painting!
It's a classical portrait with strong and rich colours. What strikes me first is the hair and the staring eyes - an expression of silence and perhaps determination. There's a lovely light that hits the face and good work with the brushes and textures. The background is subtile, needed there to help lift the face and create a setting for the rest of the pic, which it does.
Because of the colours and the way the background looks like winter with stormy clouds, I imagine that he's the kind of person who's cold and strong on the outside but warm and kind on the inside.
The lips are really well drawn, as the rest of details in the drawing. I'm amazed at how the skin is coloured. I keep staring at the structure and the way they are sculptured. Very nicely done!
So to sum up: It's a lovely portrait done in rich colour and with it's play of light and shadow it demands attention.
I love the lighting and the look in his eyes. So expressiveee must.....LEARN! The shirt looks a bit flat, but I think it only allows you to stare more at his gorgeous face. Intentional?
